Hi,
Just joined and saying hello, I'm actually a packaging specialist but have worked in technical roles in the packaging industry and been responsible for specifications and auditing and approval of packaging suppliers and materials in those roles for the last 20 years. ( my background is environmental biology).
I've worked for big brands, packer fillers, packaging suppliers, WRAP, the only area I haven't done is work for a retailer directly.
I'm passionate about ensuring that we pack products safely in safe packaging which complies with food contact regulations and all suppliers are actually BRc compliant, as well as correct labelling.
I'm also keen that there are more people trained on packaging topics with more science behind the knowledge, so that packaging can be used effectively, safely and efficiently. In 2017 I won the Outstanding contribution to the Packaging Industry award (Packaging News) in the UK for my work leading packaging education developments.
In the end, I got so annoyed with it all I just wrote my own online training course.
I'm now self-employed giving support to organisations on packaging, packaging compliance and packaging and the environment along with coaching and training of people to give them a greater packaging understanding.
I tend to challenge and constantly look for ways we can improve in these areas to reduce our environmental impact and ensure packaging is food safe.
Thank you to Lesley Roberts for introducing me to this group. I'm looking forward to following the discussions and hopefully giving valuable input too.
Thanks
Haulwen
