Good Afternoon,

I am working on FSSC 22000 implementation and re-evaluating our HACCP to meet all the requirements.  Is the following statement valid as it applies to HARPC/HACCP in regards to FSSC 22000.

Process Preventative Controls = Critical Control Points

Preventative Controls = Operations Prerequisite Programs

It seems as though the requirements for FSSC 22000 and the risk based approach to ISO really is similar to the HARPC requirements

Insight and examples would be much appreciated!

Best Regards

Nicole

I asked Jenny Scott at a seminar about this sort of thing, and she said that the names don't matter, its what they do that matters.

Unfortunately, at least in the case of ISO's  invented function OPRP, there is a never-ending discussion on what the latter was/ is intended to do.

And likewise for the terminologies invented by FSMA.

As an excellent example of co-mingled confusion -

IIRC the PCQI "Bible" makes no mention of OPRP. A Word to the Wise ?

One can view it like mathematics; that there is an underlying, perfect truth for which our nomenclature is but an imperfect description.

Can we, please, stop using the word HARPC? It was proposed early in the FSMA process but was never adopted by the FDA. The regulations are know as Preventive Controls that require a Food Safety Plan, which requires a mandatory Hazard Analysis for the identification of significant hazards that require Preventive Controls in place in order to ensure consumer safety.

Yes, Process Preventive Controls are the equivalent of the CCPs in HACCP
