Hi all.

I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to share your stories about a rejection of supplier or co manufacturer as a accepted candidate because of an audit for food quality/safety related issue you observed.

No names please! Thanks

Have unfortunately dis qualified a number of facilities as suppliers.

And for all sorts of reason, of course the biggest standout was a a company that made trayed meals and the overhead sewage waste pipe was, leaking directly onto the production line... fragrant day!

What would you say were your least offending disqualifications? Does it ever come down to having multiple supplier options for the same product and you went with the company who had the better food safety program even though they may have been more expensive?

There can be a number of reasons why a potential supplier fails.

Our clients require financial disclosures for instance, even if a company was SQF or any other GFSI scheme certified and had the lowest price available they would be kicked out as a supplier due to being shaky.

On the flip side of that we have advised many small food companies to get SQF certified as buyers many times will favor a certified one over another one even if the other one is cheaper.

Our company and all clients require SQF for suppliers, good fiancials, etc.

Price is rarely the key reason for buying or not.
