Any ideas on how to comply with the new clause? This one is about labelling and packing. Is this a procedure, policy, One Point Lesson?

Myself, and in sense our plant, have a procedure in place. One likely having been there since inception since anyone working in the packaging area has some training provided to understand how to do the task, what to look for in regards to labeling materials i.e. allergen warnings. We have a check sheet that is required to be completed with each pallet of packaging that arrives on the floor that it is correct and labels met the product being packaged.  We also have a packaging trainer who takes all new hires through the job requirements and sets up a job shadow with a fellow employee. All this is part of the training to me.

Hello, from the Interpretation Guideline:

Packing and labelling training Mis-packed and mis-labelled goods are the leading cause of product recalls across the world.

This clause requires any personnel linked to the packing or labelling of raw materials, intermediates or finished product to be trained in, and kept up to date with, proper procedures. It is also useful for these staff to understand the implications of mis-packed or mis-labelled product.

Most of the facilities have a work instruction, and a record related, so training could be off site, or on the line, but it shall be done

hope this helps...
Leila

Hi, The whole requirement is to prevent messing up when packing and labeling. To ensure this it is important people handling labeling and packing should be qualified. You can include the subject of labeling and packing in the training calendar and train them.

Don't forget this training should include contractors and temporary staff. My suggestion is to include the basics into their inductions and sign in to site and if a permit to work includes interaction with applicable machines, further training should be given.

Anyone have suggestions on Training for this when you have one product (dry black beans) being packaged on one line in 100 lb bags.  The labeling and packaging is poly bags that are provided by the customer.

TIA

Presumably there are still key details that need to be checked to ensure that you have been sent correct labels, batch coding/traceability info etc is correct?
In theory it should be a fairly simple training as you've got far less variation to covert than many sites ;)

Does anyone have a idea of a Preventive Action  todo when staff is found not following Labeling and Pack Control SOP, they didn't look at the packaging instructions for the correct bag said was just use to using the other bag it is already a 4 step (4 different staff check and the last two didn't follow the SOP).

This is frustrating and ever so common - just because somebody has been given the training doesn't mean they will actually do it. If it is happening often i would consider adding an extra step maybe by quality control and obviously these things should have repercussions for the staff not complying with SOP. Preventative action is mostly likely to retrain staff, conduct ad-hock checks, - it can be whatever you want it to be to ensure the job gets done correctly. Maybe even temporary measures will suffice.
