Hi Jiljilbean

Yes it is a natural preservative. It is also known as Natamycin. It is marketed by DSM as Delvo®Cid+ is declared safe by independent food safety authorities, including the European Food Safety Authority.

There is some approval for use in food in the EU, for specific limited purposes subject to certain constraints: https://webgate.ec.e...w&identifier=73

As the OP is in the US, the FDA position is probably the more relevant one, although it's similar in terms of permission for use in specified products subject to maximum levels: https://www.ecfr.gov...se21.3.172_1155

The full Scientific Opinion document from EFSA may also provide some useful general information: https://efsa.onlinel....efsa.2009.1412
