Reference standard for food grade specification for CO2?

Best Answer , 06 August 2019 - 10:24 AM

For use as an additive (E290) in the EU there is a specification in the annex to Regulation (EU) 231/2012, although the EIGA document 70/17 is more stringent/detailed in a number of areas.

Hello friends

Request help.

Which is the reference standard for food grade specs of CO2? Is there any EU standard for this? I found few materials on the same on the EIGA website.

Thank you

Regards

Hi Poulami

It appears that there is a FDA regulation which dictates the purity or grading of gases used in the food industry

for Beverage industries the grading of 99.90% CO2 purity for beverage grade gases is now mandated by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA regulations allow for the other .09% of the gas to be made up of other hydrocarbons.

Please visit the following link to understand FDA regulation for food grade gases
