Hi ,

Can you please guide me what legislative control documents are needed for supplier risk analysis. Is it only FSMA or GFSI certificate can be considered to cover  legislative control  cleause.

Further, cudn't understand meaning of variety of species cross contamination.

Please advise

Thanks

I'd suggest that your approval process should ideally cover both certification and specific regulatory requirements. For example if you source ingredients produced under different regulatory requirements then you may need to verify that they meet those applicable to your products/markets. In any case it should be simple (theoretically ;) ) for a competent supplier to confirm legislative compliance...

The variety/species point relates to potential for contamination with something other than what you think you're getting - for example, beef being contaminated with horsemeat (a popular one in Britain :ejut: ), or if you're claiming to use e.g. a specific variety of fruit, what is the potential risk in terms of getting something else (e.g. Cox Orange Pippin apples substituted with a generic mix of varieties).

If you haven't got a copy of the Interpretation Guide yet then it's worth doing so!

Thanks pHruit!

Do we need to get FMSA certificate from new suppliers or we need to get it from old approved suppliers as well?

The BRC Standard does not require that suppliers be approved or monitored based upon legislative requirements (i.e. FSMA).

However if you have suppliers from countries that are subject to specific legislation, it's certainly a good idea to have a statement on hand from those suppliers that they comply with the legislation.

But specific to your question about legislative requirements for the risk assessment, you might want to consult the interpretation guide, since it's not possible to post the interpretation here.
