Hello everone !

I need help. I have to do new HARA for offset proces (printing cardboards). But this my first HARA for food packaging, Until now, I've only been doing food HARA.

And I don't know what threats I have.

I write

*Foreign objects from the machine (plastic and glass elements)

*Foreign bodies (wood, metal)
*Incorrect process parameters (incorrect print parameters)
*Foreign bodies (pieces of the product)
*Foreign bodies (dirt, dirt from the machine, raw material)

What else should I add?

I work on a different material. I think these things might be true for you:

- defects on purchased materials (quality related)

- wrong type (flute) or thickness (quality related)

- glue or staples (foreign bodies) if you do assembly

- pathogens

- residual volatile chemical (since you mention printing)

- hermetic finishing (if any, quality related)

- dusk, hair, blood by employees.

- contamination in storing and transportation.

- delamination if you do lining

Hi Alex,

Slightly off-topic but maybe have a look at this website for some ideas -

Hi possible HARA for printing

1. Wrong plate use (esp if your printing for pharmaceutical and high risk food products with nutritional data requirements)

2. Miss declaration of Ink or Paper composition (inks and paper are regulated with restricted composition so test for SVHC and other specific limits must be take in to consideration) refer to

     Swiss ordinances

Back to basics you need to cover Chemical, Physical, Microbial.

Chemical-  consider, migration, set off, glue, inks, maintenance fluids, cleaning fluids

Physical - off cuts, staff intervention (hair , jewelry) from machines, environment (insects, dirt) Process ( nut & blots , oils)

Microbiological- staff, insects, environment

Quality is now part of the BRC. HARA. As is malicious intervention, fraud, problems from recycled material

Check the list in the standard you are working to it may have other items.

The greatest dangers to consumers in any printing operation are incorrect design selection, mixed designs or illegibility of important information. Each of these has the potential for direct harm, including potentially death, to the consumer and need to be included in the HARA.

You don't mention whether your products are for direct food (or other similar sensitive product) or secondary/tertiary use. If direct, there may be other potential hazards to consider.

You can make it for each step of the process and then divide it into physical, biological and chemical factors.

Chemical factors such as migration

biological factors such as microbiology
