Critical Control Points - using compressed air testing to monitor risks

Took place:

Friday, June 26, 2020 - 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time

This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:

Erin Zimmerman, Customer Service and Sales Manager, Trace Analytics LLC

Webinar Overview:

Customer Service and Sales manager, Erin Zimmerman, will lead a deep dive into compressed air critical control points. CCPs are steps were control can be applied to prevent food safety hazards. In this webinar, attendees will gain a deeper understanding about how compressed air testing can be used to ensure that those controls are functioning properly. Once risks and potential sources of contamination have been accounted for and limits for the CCPs have been set, a compressed air sampling and analysis plan can be implemented. Proper assessment of a system, and regular compressed air testing can prevent serious contamination and promote the overall health of your system.

As a follow-up Trace Analytics have kindly provided answers to the questions that we couldn't get to during the live webinar.

 Vinodh B -

Whether preventive maintenance plays vital role in preventing contaminants in our food?

Along with air monitoring, proper maintenance is crucial to assuring that your compressed air is in a state of control throughout the year.

Cristina Lopez -

Is it mandatory to use food grade lubricants in the compressor? SQF requires that food grade lubricants be used in compressors.

Vinodh B -

What type of filters can be used in our compressors to avoid foreign particle contamination? Please contact your compressor service distributor

Aaron Kunda -

How often can one have swab analysis?

Manufacturers must perform a risk assessment to determine how often they need to perform swab analyses. We can analyze samples every day if need be. We have customers who sample monthly, quarterly, yearly, and everything in between. Though we don’t provide swab media, we can transfer your swab tests to our media to analyze.

Vinodh B -

What type of air filters can be used for air contact with high risk food products?

Please contact your compressor service distributor

Vinodh B -

How frequent we can monitor our air quality to ensure our food product is free from contaminants?

We recommend at least quarterly sampling but we have many customers who sample monthly too. If we know your schedule, then our Customer Service team will accommodate anything your company needs.

Vinodh B -

Whether lubricants play an important role in air quality?

Food grade lubricants are either required or recommended by the GFSI schemes.

Aaron Kunda -

Does compressed air includes forced air cooling chambers?

No.

Vinodh B -

any instrument (or) equipment available for checking and monitoring air quality?

We have several different AirCheck Kits that will help you take air samples to monitor your air quality. Please reach out to our sales team and they will help you find the right kit for your usage.

Vinodh B -

How can we maintain cooling water system for air compressor to ensure air free from contaminants? Please contact your compressor service distributor

Anurag Gupta -

At what percentage we use the sample

When designing your monitoring plan, you can choose the number of samples you take. Some customers choose a Percentage plan. You can take 25% of your points of use each year on a rotating basis. Some companies may choose to schedule sampling before and after maintenance, others might choose to sample only one point-of-use. You can complete a risk assessment to help determine how many samples your company should take.

Anurag Gupta -

How we measure the particle size in food

Trace Analytics does not analyze particles in the final food product. There are laboratories that special in food testing.

Anurag Gupta -

14 day turnaround means

A 14 day turnaround time is how long it takes our lab to incubate and analyze microbial samples once we have received them.

Jose Luis Godoy -

is ti possible to test Nitrogen for  Micro

Yes, we call this anaerobic testing. We have special storage baggies used to ship your microbial plates to ensure that the only microorganisms that will grow on your plates are the ones that could be present in your nitrogen lines.

Vinodh B -

How can we test the quality of CO2 gas used for carbonated beverages? We have plans to include testing for carbon dioxide gas purity in the near future. Currently we can only provide testing for contaminants in carbon dioxide such as carbon monoxide, methane, nitrogen, oxygen, total volatile hydrocarbons, and water. We can also test for particles, and total oil to make sure the distribution piping is not adding those type of contaminants.

Surabhi Tomar -

Any company name that you could suggest for good quality air compressor? We work with many great compressor manufacturers; however, we are unable to provide recommendations.

Fayez Ahmad -

Erika thanks so much, have you a branch or agent at KSA otherwise we hope to your partner at region, 00966503291388

We will be glad to discuss how we can work with you. Please contact our Sales Department at 512-263-0000 x5 or email sales@airchecklab.com

Noah Bogosia -

In a flour milling operation, how often must the air quality be tested?

It really comes down to the manufacturer to determine how often to sample based off of a risk assessment. We would always recommend quarterly sampling to our customers as a great way to build a trend analysis.

Surabhi Tomar -

In many food products temperature is considered to be a CCp, how far air compressor can be considered

If the compressed air or gas comes in direct contact with the product, it should be considered a critical control point.
