Hi all.

I know this has been already discussed in the past but I thought it would be good to get updated information on what audits are costing companies. These prices are getting seemingly unreasonable.

We have a small food processing company, all dried foods, low risk, 1 HACCP/ Food Safety Plan.

The total they want us to pay for an upcoming BRC audit is $7000. They claim it takes 2 onsite days and 1 offsite. I know for a fact that the auditors have everything completed by the end of day 2 because I converse with them about what their activities are. They are doing some work afterhours.

1/2 day travel charge of over $800

Other Fees of $800

That's about $315/hr for auditing and $165/ hr for driving/traveling. Plus the other fees.

Does this seem in the ball park for what others are paying?

Thank you for your Reponses.

I could get into the forensic's of how consulting and auditing fees are determined, but that would take a while.

So, I will just say there are a lot of components involved with contracting to for an audit - most people focus on that one person that is doing the audit and negate everything else that is involved.

And there are a lot of things involved with getting that audit completed ans it is a lot more than 1 person.

At our consulting company our rates are fairly close to an auditor rate on a per day basis and while a client may only see me they don't see the people in the office that do admin and research work etc.

All of this boils down to this...

$7000 is reasonable.

My last AIB (GMP) audit was $1,725 and T&E was $1,275.

My last SFSF (Feed) audit was $1,375 and T&E was $616.14

These were both single day audits just outside of a travel hub (Houston).

For our last BRC audit in February 2020 we paid USD 7948 or EUR 7156  (for 1st day 8:30-17:30 and 2nd day 8:30-17:00).

That's an increase of around USD 300 / EUR 260 from previous year when we had to book with the same CB but in last minute as our previous CB couldn't send auditor who spoke our language.

Well, I have other prices. But I work in a completely different country.

I suppose there is not a single CB active in the US ? Just ask offers to all of them, and choose the one you want, that will the simplest way to get the best price for your specific situation.
