Hello everyone,

we had an audit of a client (in which I did not participate because it was supposed to be carried out in another unit that is not even BRC certified) but I was given the following non-compliance:

"There is no clear allergen policy to ensure that maintenance lubricants and cleaning chemicals are not used / purchased if they have allergens. Also include good team hygiene practices to avoid allergen cross contamination"

I was thinking of putting the information in our work instructions on good production practices and good hygiene practices...

Any idea how I can answer this question?

Please share any documents you think are relevant!

PS: we produce BOPP film

Thank you :)

Add to your supplier verification - all items including chemicals are checked for allergens before purchasing/using.

If following BRC, i would just add it to the required chemical approval procedure. then obtain the documentation form the
chemical suppliers. I don't think you need to make it much more difficult then that.

Hi,

We just complete out BRC Packaging Standard Issue 6. However, we got 1 NCR due to not including allergen in HACCP for raw material.

We already including chemical in our HACCP and insisted that there are no allergen for raw material as our raw material are BOPP ink and adhesive.

If we include in our HACCP, what does supporting document that we need to request from our supplier?

request an allergen declaration

Most (if not all) chemical companies that are supplying food manufacturing (including packaging) should have one on hand and this should not be a surprise to them

I fully agree with Scampi on this. The potential risk you're including in your hazard analysis is allergen presence from raw materials, and you are (or will be) controlling this as a pre-requisite via your raw material assessment process, by obtaining allergen information from your suppliers.
