Kindly assist, I am a bit confused on training requirements. Are all  internal and external trainings suppose to be from an accredited trainer? Can a non-accredited trainer provide training? Note that the effectiveness of the training will be documented together with the training materials.

I think, external training is done when there's no this kind of expert on the site: for instance, we have chemical usage training done by the chemical provider, forklift training by the accredited company, etc. Food safety training can be done internally by HACCP team leader or other person having appropriate training themselves. What accreditation do you mean?

In South Africa we have the FoodBev Seta which accredits training providers and the training is recognized. I understand it now, not all trainings must be accredited as you mentioned for forklift, etc, as we are looking at getting the forklift driver a license then the training must be accredited to issue the license.

That's correct for forklift training. For my company, I do all internal food safety training myself as I got college and university diploma at food safety/food technology. However, anyone with the appropriate training (e.g. HACCP, GFSI, other food safety related) could do that, you don't need to hire an external party for internal food safety training.

As long as the training is relevant, appropriate and demonstrably effective. We use testing, records and refresher training to demonstrate effectiveness regardless of the trainer. I usually perform all safety training including interim forklift training for employees needing it between our programmed, 3 year training sessions. The trainer must be proficient and knowledgeable but not necessarily certified for our facility (Food packaging manufacturer)

1) You must identify the trainings which are critical to food safety and industrial safety or fulfill regulatory requirements.

 

2) Only critical trainings should be performed through accredited trainers to prevent any objection from any customer, certification or regulatory body. There is no need to get trained all relevant staff, especially where there are financial constraints, through external accredited trainer. Only one competent person is enough to be trained through accredited trainer. Rest of the staff could be trained internally.
