Hi, our laundry contract is up for renewal and I'm looking at alternate options for personnel working in enclosed product areas - warehouse and packing environments. Currently they are to wear a knee length coat that is laundered by the contractor. The new contractor has proposed a alternative option - a waist length coat that is insulated and high-visibility. This would still be laundered and personnel would get a new/clean one each shift. This option is much more practical as these areas are chilled and have fork lift trucks operating around them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Would an auditor object that the operatives are wearing personal clothing from the waist down?  Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Danny

I wouldn't think and auditor would take issue with it. Street clothes are more readily cleanable than a forklift operating in the same area. I'm assuming this is low risk?

As long as  you can show a risk assessment for the change and justify it, I wouldn't think an auditor would take issue.

I worked at a low risk site and in the warehouse / enclosed product areas they had high-vis coats etc. and it was never an issue. (no contract laundering either)
