Hi everyone! We are an SQF facility and we grow/harvest/package leafy greens. We currently have a CEIA metal detection system. In order to introduce a new product size (a bulk package) I need to find a metal detection solution for this new size, as there's no potential to fit this through our current machine. I've already received a quote for another CEIA but I am being asked to find other acceptable options as well. I reached out to Mettler-Toledo but haven't received a response as of yet.

We already established we cannot fit a free-falling detection machine with our current packaging setup, so the quote we received is for a conveyor system. Are there any other types of detection out there?

Hi PL,

Your basic problem will be that the sensitivity inevitably goes down as the aperture of the MD increases.

X-ray is an alternative but  I'm unaware of their relative sensitivities for large packaging. eg -

Sesotec might be an alternative. They have metal detection and also x-ray systems:

Hi,

Have you considered a rental option? If it’s a new installation for a new product the rental company will carry out the site study and will advise on the best option. The worst thing would be to buy a machine and find out later that it doesn’t fit your environment – product, vibration, humidity, electrical noise.

You can try them: https://metaldetector-rentals.co.uk/

I know you said a gravity flow would not work.   Some manufactures have a low profile head that might work.   Sorry if this is already an option that you considered.

That's a great idea. Do they rent in the US?

Fortress Technology is a really good metal detector.  They can customize to suit any application and are quick to respond to sales and service requests.  They also rent equipment, but that depends what they have available.

Note that the OP was also requesting info for any systems other than MD.

With all due respect, without knowledge concerning desired/available sensitivities, brand suggestions although welcome  may be of limited value.

Kind Regards,
