Hi.
How do you guys control the movements of engineers and technicians? They have their own uniform but it's difficult to control them like how we control production uniforms, e.g: no uniforms allowed in the canteen or no uniforms outside of the changing area. But what about engineers? Because they wear them from clock in to clock out and they move in and out of production non-stop.

 The engineer and the technician are not visitors. They are working day to day there.

Not sure what you meant.

If they are employees, it's certainly issues of food safety training and of working culture.

If they don't have labour contracts with your company, they are called visitors regardless how frequently they work there.

We implemented locked doors with key fobs.  It keeps out the riff raff and data logs anyone moving into any area of the facility.  Pretty helpful for seeing where everyone is going and then drilling down and finding out why.

 

Anyone else gets an escort if they are a visitor.

How do you want to control them?  Are they limited to certain areas?

 

If they have their own uniform and they are not handling product, I don't think you need to treat them the same way you would production employees, but I look forward to hearing more information.

Maintenance staff and QC ALWAYS have access to the entire facility unobstructed

 

The best way to mitigate the risks with the uniforms is to have hooks by doorways into different areas where they remove the smock they have one and put on the new (different coloured) smock for the different department

 

They are vital to keeping the plant moving, you cannot limit their access

Our maintenance workers are allowed to use their regular overalls and coats in all lowcare area's (packed food products). When they go to lunch they hang their coats and keep on their overall. They are not allowed to go outside in their coats and indoor shoes.

 

When they need to be in high care/production we provide additional overcoats in a different colour than production  and high care shoes (or sturdy plastic shoe covers). If need be they can also wear an additional pair of pants/overalls.

 

Still it is a lot of training and effort to get them to wear the correct outfits. And especially a lot of effort not to have them ''quickly'' hop out to get something.
