Hello. My name is Julie.

I have recently been tasked with writing a Supplier Approval and Monitoring Procedure for my company.

I have finished the ASQ - Supply Chain Management Primer and I have dipped into the internet, but have been on a few wild goose chases. I am looking for a template or something that can get me the basic start.

If anyone could point me in a direction that doesn't lead me down another rabbit hole, that would be great.

Thanks,

J.Valle

Hi Julie, welcome to IFSQN :welcome:

Is there a particular certification standard you're working with / planning for certification against?

There are loads of threads on supplier approval on the site here - it might be worth searching e.g. the relevant clause number if it's for a specific standard.

I suspect the ASQ text is somewhat broader than you'd be expected to need for food safety purposes, unless you're looking to build some sort of "integrated" program that encompasses more areas than would be required for e.g. BRC/SQF.

Hi Julie -

Just my opinion, but I find it better to avoid templates.  Write down in simple language, what you do now. Compare to the Standard - then improve.  Keep it simple and risk-based. DO not treat all suppliers the same. Supplier monitoring for lower risk items can be as simple as your routine receiving inspections.

Hi Julie,

There is a huge range of complexity of Procedures in use varying from a simple questionnaire of a few lines to heavyweight FS Standards like BRC.

Just to give you some ideas, this one  is somewhere in the middle -

In that case, there are two features you might find useful:

1) The search box at the top right of the Page. It's quite subtle so really easy to miss, but if you type in the clause of the standard you're looking at (e.g. 3.5.1.1 for BRC) or a more generic query such as "supplier approval", "supplier risk assessment", this will bring up a list of matches from the forum.

2) The forum itself is structured into sections, so there are e.g. forum areas for each of the main certification standards and for common topic areas (e.g. there is one for supplier management).

Thank you very much, I truly appreciate it.

One comment on SAPs is that the specifics often depend on your Company's  intended Certification Standard (if any). Do you have one ?

Regarding "searching" I personally find the most useful Page is the one linked from the tiny cogwheel icon at top extreme right in picture in Post 6. (Unfortunately this is [at least for my browsers] unreachable at moment due to an internal database problem. Coming soon.)

Kind Regards,
