Good DAy All
Please can someone assist me with the below - Im having a hard time understanding the requirement 8.5.2.4. 1 below - wouldn't this be the same as a your CCP Identification . as I am very confused as to what do they mean by categorisation is it the hazard or the control measure that you categorise r the procss step. IS this after the HACCP study ?
If some one can help me with an example
8.5.2.4 Selection and categorization of control measure(s)
8.5.2.4.1 Based on the hazard assessment, the organization shall select an appropriate control
measure or combination of control measures that will be capable of preventing or reducing the identified
significant food safety hazards to defined acceptable levels.
The organization shall categorize the selected identified control measure(s) to be managed as OPRP(s)
(see 3.30) or at CCPs (see 3.11).
The categorization shall be carried out using a systematic approach. For each of the control measures
selected, there shall be an assessment of the following:
a) the likelihood of failure of its functioning;
b) the severity of the consequence in the case of failure of its functioning; this assessment shall
include:
1) the effect on identified significant food safety hazards;
2) the location in relation to other control measure(s);
3) whether it is specifically established and applied to reduce the hazards to an acceptable level;
4) whether it is a single measure or is part of combination of control measure(s).

Your understanding is correct, they've just used the word categorization as a red herring and not meant to mean anything other than the hazard analysis
Please stop referring to me as Sir/sirs

Hi Nassu,
Your interpretation is not exactly incorrect but is sort of incomplete.
You are encountering ISO-HACCP, not Codex HACCP.
The "categorization" referred (as stated in the Standard) means differentiation of the relevant control measures for (risk assessed) significant hazards as being associated with either OPRPs or CCPs.
This stage is an integral part of the ISO-HACCP Plan.
Methodologies/examples for performing the Categorization are discussed elsewhere on this Forum.

Hi Leila,
Thks for attachment.
Actually it has been previously posted/discussed on this Forum. IMO it contains numerous questionable statements regarding CCP/OPRP.

Hi Leila,
You're right. Some of it is usefully informative, eg the decision tree.
I wasn't aware no longer available.
Kind Regards,
