Hi everybody,

Searching for the best material combination for packing toasted coconut chips;

Hope to use a pouch which consist of metalized PET, Nylon & LDPE  layers.

While being cost effective, to avoid leak moisture and air into package &

help to save freshness & crispiness of the product for about 8 months of shelf life,

what will be the thickness of the each material layer should be?

Thanks  :smile:

Hi Nalathu,

You may try reaching out to a packaging supplier to gather samples and test with your product. 8 months shelf life should not be difficult with your product, given that the right combination of materials are selected. You may find that rather than a custom thickness of each layer, opting for a standard thickness that a supplier already produces can bring down costs of your packaging greatly. I have worked with the supplier below for flexible packaging options, they are friendly and knowledgeable. Usually these suppliers already have a bag option in the materials you like, your follow up would be to do a shelf life study with your product to see if it suits your needs.

Hi Brothbro,  :bye:

Thank you very much for your kind reply!

I have already asked for our local custom suppliers for their ready-made options, still haven't got any positive feedback.

Just looked into this forum to get an idea from here if anyone already using a proper material combination for a

similar product, since then I can share it our suppliers to expedite the process.

Once again thank you for the sharing supplier reference too...  :thumbup:

Definitely would want a metallized structure that also has some resistance to impact due to the product you are bagging.  The other factor to consider is if your product will experience any extremes in terms of altitude as that will play into the structure as well.  Be forthcoming with your supplier and tell them you need a metalized structure that has some resistance to tear and has oxygen and moisture barrier properties.  Barrier films with nylon and EVOH tend to be more for products such as meats and such that are more perishable.  There are a lot of options in terms of structure you could try, but ultimately you will have test on your equipment and make the choice on what works best for you.  They type of equipment you are using, vertical seal vs horizontal seal, will also play into the structure you may need as well.  Hope your supplier gets back to you quickly.
