Hello SaferPakers,
The British Retail Consortium / Institute of Packaging Technical Standard & Protocol for Companies Manufacturing and Supplying Food Packaging Materials for Retailer Branded Products, was first published in October 200, and is now over 2 1/2 years old. And I think it's probably due for an upgrade.
To be honest my copy of the standard is looking a little bit jaded anyhow and I think I've had my £90 out of it.
Seriously the Standard is due for review (it may well be being reviewed as I type) and I wanted to create some discussion where you 'the customers / users' of the standard can have your say on the amendments, additions and removals you would like to see included in the next issue. You never know big brother may be watching and you may be able to make a difference to the next issue of the standard.
I have to say I quite like the BRC/IOP Packaging Standard…seriously! I know it's a bit of a sad admission but come on the format of the standard is good and it is quite user friendly. However, as with most standards the language in patches is poor and confusing, although it is still much better than for example ISO 9001:2000.
Over the next few weeks we shall walk through the standard taking a section or two at time for comment and discussion. I think this bite size approach is logical and should allow us to focus more effectively whilst we review the standard.
In addition if you have any grand, high level ideas or general comments about the standard please post them here:
