Hi! Can anyone give me clarity on this issue?

We recently had an audit training for ISO 22000:2018 version last week. Our instructor gave us  a scenario wherein an issue re: absence of validation for the cleaning procedure of a food contact equipment after a pest control activity has been conducted was raised. To what clause should this NC be raised. The instructor wont accept clause  8.5.3 Validation of control measure(s) and combinations of control measures as this clause refers for the control measures in HACCP/OPRP plan. is this true? Then what should be the appropriate clause?

Thank you in advance.

The clause that relates to validation of cleaning programmes is in ISO/TS 22002-1 (section 11.3), the  Food Manufacturing Technical Specification supporting ISO22000

Your tutor is correct, ISO22000 Clause 8.5.3 relates to the validation of controls of significant food safety hazards i.e. OPRPs and CCPs

Hi Joanne,

I'm not a user of iso22000:2018 however if you study the literature associated with the 2005 version, Validation of PRPs was categorically not required, only Verification.

Whether the 2018 version has changed the above situation I am unaware but afaik (eg clause 8.2.3) iso22000:2018 does not mandatorily require use of iso22002  unlike fssc22000.

Of course yr instructor might be confusing the terminologies Validation and Verification which is also not so unusual.

Kind Regards,

To support the comments McKeownl the cleaning and sanitizing PRP 11 (TS22002-1:2009) documents in secton 11.3 that cleaning program shall be established and validated by the organisation. So this would be the clause to quote.

Hi PQE,

Please refer  Post 3. After checking the 2018 text,  22002-1 is not mandatory to be used for iso22000.

Unfotunately the OP does not specify which option was in fact implemented.

You are correct Charles, I had my FSSC22000 head where the TS22002 requirement is applicable

No problem, you may still be ultimately right, only Joanne knows.

Agree with post #2 and agree with post  #3 that it may interchange validation and/or verification.  What did the trainer say as the correct answer?
