After moving house last week my new team is Greenmount and I look forward to watching the next home match with a pint or three.

So its black pudding and pea fritters for you now then simon ? Its a shame Greenmount aren't in the Central Lancs league and could meet the mighty Heywood fresh from their league-cup double!

Do you think Lancs can really nail the County Championship after all these years or will the ususal rain shortened draws scupper them ?

Why put off until tomorrow that which you can avoid doing altogether ?

Dear Simon,
Perhaps I should have mentioned that the last time I saw a list of County teams, I think there were only 2 options - The main lot (approx 20-25 counties I think including the C/O Universities) and the Minor Counties. I ‘m not sure that relegation existed.
After yr comment, I had a look on the IT which succeeded in totally confusing me - a league for 40 year Pros ?. The bonus system looks like a statistician's dream. As you say, Essex seem to be ¾ of the way down, sounds familiar.

I noticed one interesting item -
'Lewis was reported by the umpires Nigel Llong and Neil Bainton for a level one breach of the code (using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting)'. Wonder what level 2 is ?

Anyway, the name Greenmount definitely has a classy ring, it's near Bury and Ramsbottom I think.

Kind Regards,

Maybe not such a shame. I don't even know what league Greenmount are in, or whether it is above or below the Central Lancs league. If they ever play we'll have to meet up for a pint.

The way the rain has been going this past week they've absolutely no chance.

Maybe Martin can confirm but I think relegation is a relatively new phenomenon.

They are pretty much intertwined, but we actually live in Holcombe Brook the place next to Greenmount.

If I remember correctly the County championship went to 2 divisions in 2000, It seems strange that Lancs won divison 2 last season and are in with a crack at winning the title this season, after seventy odd years, makes Man United's 26 year wait pale into insignificance !

Theres some great views to be had in and around Holcombe

Gee you boys and your sport!

I suppose i shouild be grateful it's not football!! At least i can handle Cricket.

On another note, i notice there are a number of us in, what i termed the Midlands. Now i know Manchester is not strictly the Midlands, but your close enough.

How many of the members on her would be intersted in a Forum Xmas do? I appreciate that a lot of members are not local to the UK (though we'd love to see you too) but i think it would be nice to put faces to names, and discussing the offside rule!

I'll wait and see who's interested

Dear Simon,

I clicked on yr Holcombe Brook link (it certainly looks pretty) and wondered what the connection to Arsenal's Team Manager (sorry Cazyncymru) might be, not to mention the star of the American version of 'The Office'. You may just have moved to a Village of Clones, a 'good, close community' indeed. Suggest you stay in at night which, since there appears to be zero external entertainment facilities, should not be too difficult. On the same subject, was also interested to note there are plenty of 'local conveniences,' is this Holcombe code for swingers?.

There is a bakery so I guess they are all 'interbred' - get it? I had also noticed the same man in many different places at the same time e.g. serving in the bakery, pumping gas at the petrol station, installing windows etc. I just thought he was very busy - maybe not. :o
Seriously (and in case any of my neighbours see this) it's a lovely place and the people are great. My new neighbour even gave us some tomatoes she grew in her garden.

Simon

The 26 years of tantalising and teasing made the winning oh so much sweeter. If you didn't already you now know who I support. :x_biggrin:

I always said you were a sound chap Simon

The problem is we can't see them, its done nothing but rain since we got here.

Ive just finished blowing up the dinghy, even by Manchester/Lancs standards its been an awfully wet couple of months, the folks who were flooded in June are looking very anxious just now

Im delighted to report that the train is alive and well, it went past earlier, the line near me is in a cutting so in this damp weather you see the most spectacular plumes of steam apparently coming out of the ground !

Why put off until tomorrow that which you can avoid doing altogether ?

For the fist time in a week the weather brightened up late on this afternoon. Kind of ironic; the poor kids go back to school tomorrow.

Lets hope we're in for a nice spell.

Simon
