Hi guys,

First post. Great site by the way! Very informative.

We have external waste bins that we load our internal waste bins into every day, but do not have a dedicated space with appropriate drainage to clean the external bins.

Just wanted to know where you all clean your external bins? And your thoughts on bringing them inside the raw processing room (meat) at the end of the shift to clean with the appropriate drainage?

I'm going to conduct a risk assessment but am interested to see the forums thoughts, and processes.

Are they your bins or the waste removal companies bins? Our service providers will take away the bins and wash them.

I'm not quite as fat as my picture would suggest. The camera adds pounds. Just how many cameras are on me?  :roflmao:

Good point.   We do have a dumpster.   They take that away and when it's gone we clean under where it sits, and they bring back a fresh one.

But I would never take an outside trash bin back inside our facility.   I guess it depends on your setup tho.

I don't have anyone clean the external dumpster either.  Where possible I prefer dumpsters be hauled away, because they'll usually bring the empty as they pick up the full to save themselves a trip.  Plus I tend to raise hell if they take my dumpster and leave me without one for an extended period.  I keep the area around it on a sanitation schedule along with all exterior grounds, but I don't think anywhere I've worked had staff actually wash it.

My thoughts would be "Not only no, but hell no."  I wouldn't want an external dumpster, having sat with trash ingredients in the hot sun and toxic chemical waste and universe knows what else, to enter ANY room of my facility, and triple no to taking it into active production to be washed in your cleaning room.  If avoidable, I wouldn't even want interior trash bins to re-enter production to make their way to the sanitation area.

Umm, no please don't bring a nasty outside dumpster full of salmonella and bum feces back into your 'raw processing room (meat) at the end of the shift to clean'. That would be bad methinks.

They are the service providers bins. And not dumpsters, small rear lift plastic bins.

Take the offensive empty bin near a storm drain in the parking lot and hose it out.  Spritz with diluted bleach.  Do not take that thing into a production area.
