Hello all, our facility is looking into adding bar code readers into packaging line to minimize chance of wrong packaging used. Would this bar code reader be considered a CCP? and will it require a reject mechanism installed?
Thank you all!

To me that's not a ccp. If you want a kick out on it, that's up to you.
We scan all LP's before to ensure everything is right. Double checking you have the right thing that's already going through the pack line seems kind of odd to me. Why not shoot an ID code before you run?

Oooh fascinating.
If you're packing allergen containing product and non allergen containing you could absolutely make the case for it being a CCP. But I'd argue most people don't. Mostly because when (not if) it breaks, they want to be able to revert to a manual system...
But if you look at how many food safety related public recalls there are for wrong packaging, I find it hard to justify it's not. I think it's only not because we don't want it to be...
It's often an oPRP I've found and often a poorly managed one. (Removes pin, throws grenade on that comment and waits for dust to settle...)
