Hello WORLD!!!

I have been lurking in the background for a while now, but I feel like I need to ask this question. I am relatively new to the world of PCQI and hazard analysis, and the company I work for has opted to do in-house vomitoxin testing on wheat, and since this is a preventive control in our food safety plan, I need a verification method. (Process step, hazard, critical limit, these are all fairly simple..)

I truly have no idea on where to start. Maybe a COA from our supplier guaranteeing that the lot of tests will work? But this wouldn't verify us using the test correctly! This is all so new to me! Maybe I am overthinking it?

In-house testing is seriously a whole ordeal...  :headhurts: I would appreciate any help I can get on the topic, any clarifying questions are welcome, and I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks in advance for any answers or guidance!

Hello there Bird Talon,

Having the COAs for the testing kits is certainly a good idea but a bit more is needed here as you correctly stated.  I would combine this with kit use training records as well as comparing in house results of those trained vs 3rd party testing.  I would compare results vs 3rd party at least annually.

Thank you! Those are good ideas I will bring up to the team for approval. Comparing to a 3rd party is truly a good idea!
