Hi All,

for those who aren't aware, I saw on Linkedin the other day this has been republished.

This is the new one:

GFSI-Food-Safety-Culture-Position-Paper-March-2026.pdf

This is the old one:

GFSI-Food-Safety-Culture-Full.pdf

Thoughts?

I should probably wait to read it until I've had more than one sip of coffee because right now, I hate everything about it and feel like this move might be the push I needed to get out of food manufacturing.

This was my literal first thought, need more coffee to be able to digest this bs.....

well wouldya look at that

This dual-layered approach recognises that food safety culture maturity is not only expressed through organisational culture aspects such as vision and leadership, but also realised through effectiveness of food safety operational behaviours, including responses to change.

so even if the general culture is shite, food safety isn't ALWAYS impacted negatively

I have to admit you've done better than me, I just got utterly confused by whatever that diagram is.

The conclusion of that paper states, in 100 words or less, "we still don't know how to define it, and more research is needed."

Someone made a three-way venn diagram, which is missing some details about how different segments overlap, figure out how to stack it on top of a pie chart with overlapping word art as if it was a tiered cake, and wants mommy to give them a gold star for the refrigerator...

The more I read about expectations and advice from experts in food safety culture, the less I understand what they're actually asking for...  I'm with TimG, this type of malarkey will be the end of my food safety career.

They need to get back to basics

Say what you'll do, back it up with good validations and prove it

I think though that the first position paper was quite simple. At least I could understand it. Sometimes there's a gap between design and reality, these might be the reasons why. Then PAS320 helped with the "what to do about it".

It feels like this second version is unnecessarily complex. Feels too academic to me. I want something practical.
