Good morning IFSQN,

I am assisting a food processor that is facing some recurring listeria presence in their pneumatic waste conveyance.  It's an extensive system that runs through production and non-production areas of the facility.  If the IFSQN community has helped overcome similar issues in the past, I would be interested in the strategies that were utilized.

The food processor does have an established SSOP for this work and it is fairly comprehensive.  PerQuat alkaline peroxygen phase-transfer chemistry treatments have been used in the past to provide some control, and the facility is now leaning towards use of silver ions.

Any insight or guidance related to the reduction / elimination of listeria in pneumatic waste conveyance would be truly appreciated.

Thank you,

ESK

Can only really assist once we establish (or try to ) identify the source, so a little more info would be helpful

What kind of commodity are they processing?

Does the system run at grade, or is it overhead or a combo?

what are the connections in system like?  are there rubber gaskets, or is it rigid welded pipe?

What kind of waste is it conveying? Where is it? Is it genuinely a risk that it's in this waste conveyance? Did they clean it before applying the disinfectant treatment? Is everything accessible to clean? Can you post clean inspect to check it's been effective? How was that clean validated?

We need more info...
