Section 6.3.3 of the revised standard states "Unless competent in-house expertise exists, a competent pest control company shall be contracted...". What criteria and degree of training would suffice as 'competent in-house expertise' ?

So you've got a copy of the New Standard! I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago but it's not arrived yet - maybe it's late…hopefully not lost.

Anyway enough of the prattling. I've just had a look and the text of the clause you quote is exactly the same in the previous version of the standard.

It doesn't specify so to verify the ‘in-house' pest control person is competent the auditor would presumably look at the physical and documentary pest control system in operation. This would give the auditor a good idea of competence. Maybe a qualification from a recognised pest control body would add value. Both of the following organisations run recognised pest control courses from beginner to advance.

Its probably much easier to outsource pest control and most do. I don't know about you but I'm scared of most creepy crawlies.

I don't believe this. Anyway, Pest Control is not that difficult handle minus the dead pests, rats and chemicals you would need to deal with.

Wholesale outlets provides opportunities (at my end anyway) for DIY. I guess apart from putting a couple of rat traps here and there, insectocutors, bait stations for ants /cockcroach etc.................I think the quality of the in-house PEST CONTROL PLAN and the monitoring of the PEST ACTIVITY LOG is what the auditor is probably looking for.
