I suppose it's a bit like moving house, a lot of waiting and a huge amount of time, effort and money invested and now I'm busy unpacking boxes and trying to find in which box I put the kettle - so I can have a cup of tea. I'm starting this blog to lead the way (as this is a new feature) and also to gather some feedback from members. I'm quite excited with the upgrade, but it would be nice to know how you all feel about it.

Cheers,
Simon

I just wanted to say I like the new lay out and colours of the website!
Hi

Working now for me - new layout looks good

Rosie

I think we will know as we use it, looks nice, but I do not get used to the watermellon or squash, what is it?

Cheers,

FSSM
It's not a watermelon or a squash it's a symbol FSSM. I like it.

Please send any comments good or bad as there will be bugs no doubt.

I think this platform gives us many more possibilities.

Thanks for your comments.
Nice...nice... but must take some times to familiarise with it...
Hi Simon,

Good to see something new in the web design. The best part which I liked is the related threads being displayed when one thread is being read. The font size / font is not very appealing to me, maybe because of being used to the old design. Overall I liked it.
Thanks for your efforts in keeping up the site.
Hi Jean, I have the same feeling about some of the font sizes. I welcome your feedback on any aspect of the site, I have noticed a few things also and we will be doing some fixes when we have a bunch to do at once.

I agree the related topic links is a good feature. I actually love the blogs and gallery and in the coming weeks we can discuss how they can be utilised. I am really excited by the changes to be honest.

Thanks,
Simon
woow.. great design.. so fresh... and fancy
I think it looks nice - very user friendly - thank you. The gallery is an interesting addition. I hope we can add good images of things like proper sanitary equipment design. I feel that the food industry gets bashed about enough in the media that we don't really need the negative images unless we can learn something from them. It may be important to keep in mind that images posted can probably be taken and used elsewhere - by the media or whomever. We work hard toward food safety - and need to show the good as well as the 'learning events'.
Thanks for all your feedback. Regarding the gallery, they were just some images I had that were relevant and eye-catching.

We can learn from any image as with the blogs images can be discussed and commented on. For example one could say what is wrong with washing meat in the sink as per that photo and we could have a debate that might also mention the best practice for thawing meat.

I totally agree also that we should have images showing best practice, good sanitary design and any good findings that an auditor might find or a member wants to show off.

By the way anyone can start a blog and anyone can create an album and I encourage that. And blogs/galleries do not necessarily need to be about food. I think this actually makes the place more of a community and more human.

I might rename the gallery I set up as "Bad Food Safety" or something like that.

Thanks for your feedback everyone.

Please play with the software - set up test blogs and galleries, you won't break anything.

Regards,
Simon
Lot to take in but big improvement. Congratulations!

I agree, maybe they should be password accesible to subscribed members.

Finally I found how to track a topic.

Good Job Simon! The new look is nice.

The fonts will take a bit to get used to, but I do like them. The galleries will be a big bonus as people get around to posting their "what not to do" pictures.

Overall grade is A+ for effort!

Now to go look around a bit...

Tom
Dear Simon,

Good job with lots of fresh ideas around .

Playing with the new design, I have experienced a problem and felt a need to add a good feature.

Problem which I am facing is related with the "Vote this post" feature. Whenever I click the button it refused with this message "Action failed: You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day".

BTW, what do you do with the data you get from here::whistle:?

The new thing which I want to be added is direct link to "Active Content". Some times I do not get a chance to login for a week or two. I know there is a way to view the previous post with filter of a particular duration, but it is not accessible with a single click. IMO if that feature would be available along with "View New Content" at the top with a drop down list of choices for the particular duration (week, 2 week, month.....) it would be easy for all to trace all the previous post that anybody have missed.

Regards:
Zeeshan.
Thanks for the further feedback, it’s very important so keep it coming. I’m especially interested if the design is broken or things seem out of place. I have found a few.

@FSSM how do you track a topic - is it "START/STOP WATCHING TOPIC" button at the top of a topic?

@Boom Boom I still need to find out how to create a gallery album that anyone can post an image to. At the moment the two I created can only be updated by me. Still learning and will be for a long time.

@Zeeshan I don’t see the "Vote this post" feature, unless you mean the “rate topic” stars – please confirm.

BTW, what do you do with the data you get from here: ?

Not sure what you mean again Zeeshan – I don’t do anything with it. It just sits in a databse.

The link to the "Active Content" is at the bottom of the forums home page on the right hand side. It is a small link saying “Today's active content” I have a note already to make those links larger. Also on the sidebar you can see new topics posted but not replies to existing topics. I will look into this as it would be a good feature to see new posts whether they are topics or replies.

Regards,
Simon
Boom Boom (Tom) mentioned in another thread his rss feed from the forums is not updating. If you use the IFSQN rss feed please update to this: http://www.ifsqn.com...ity-discussion/
Hey Zeeshan, I know what reputation is now. Green + and Red - at the bottom right of every post. It was disabled by default, I have enabled it. We'll give it a try.

Added just learned something else regarding the purpose of reputation

Reputation system
Posts can now be rated, earning the author reputation points which can be highlighted with titles and badges.

I'm disabling negative rating as it is not a good idea. If you like a post you give positive reputation, if you want to. If you don't like a post you do nothing. Anyone have a problem with this?

Regards,
Simon
Whenever I get to the forums I want to know what’s been happening since I last visited. I noticed there is a great link at the top of the page (underneath the search box) titled “View New Content”.

That link takes you to a page with the following tabs:

Forums
Members
Help Files
Calendar
Gallery
Blogs

I’m finding it useful for getting updated quickly.

Regards,
Simon
Dear Simon,

First reaction, a much more cheerful and colorful appearance than before.

Echoing other comments, font size is problem on my Ffox and 14in monitor. Similarly took me 5min to find recent posts link. Also the “submit edited post” change to “save” took even longer to work out.

The forum still won’t remember me when I login.

The format options (undeline etc) on the posting section will still not show unless I release my ffox protection options, first occurred about 1-2 year ago. Presumably a javascript difficulty.

I suspect some of the posting info. tooltips are truncated, eg the “insert quotation” icon shd be “insert quotation marks” (maybe the previous forum was same, can’t remember)

The set of related threads is an intriguing idea, newsgirl seems to hv been resurrected from her vault. I’m wondering how the selection is made, random ??

the maintaining of the smilies table on top while editing is excellent.

I’m sure this is a change for the better.

I don't tend to post much these days though I read a lot. I wanted to comment on the fabulous changes that the team have brought about and I'd like to say the newsletter is super too. Full marks to you all and I wish you every success, you deserve it.
