Biryani

Biryani is a popular rice-based foods made with spices, rice and meat. In many regions fish, eggs or vegetables are also used as additional ingredients. The name is derived from the Persian word beryā(n) which means "fried" or "roasted". Many varients are popular with the tag of region where they belong to such as Iranian Biryani, Hyderabadi Biryani, Memoni Biryani, Thai Biryani, Sri Lankan Biryani, Malaysia's Nasi Beriani. In Singapore, the dish is called Nasi Biryani by the Malays or simply Biryani by the Indians .In the Philippines, Biryani dishes exists in the Pampanga region of the northern island of Luzon, and in the predominantly Muslim areas of the southern island of Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago.     Yes of course. Not only mine, but it's the favorite dish of my wife and daughter too. Besides this, in my opinion, it is one of the most delicious and most readily available dishes in Pakistan, especially in Karachi.

    No, it is flavored yogurt/curd (which is called 'Raita' in local language - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raita) Popular flavored yogurt eaten with Biryani are mint flavored and black pepper flavored. Flavored yogurt is usually used to enhance the taste of Biryani and somewhat to compensate the dry aspect of the dish.

    Some people use sauces (locally called 'Chutni' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chutney) with Biryani but it is not a general trend because Biryani itself is a spicy dish.
