Hello, I am new to this forum. I am currently head of Quality/Food Safety for a food manufacturer. Our company purchased a new building last year. We are trying to get FSSC 22000 certified and I am in the middle of organizing information and preparing for 3rd party certification. I have taken the FSSC 22000 implementation course through Register Corp as well as other food safety courses (HACCP, FOOD Defense and FOOD Fraud). I am also PCQI. Upper management is looking at acquiring a specialty chemical company and would like to take a section of our food facility and retrofit it to take on this new business opportunity. The specialty chemical company will be purchased from our company but have it's own legal name but share our building. Physical walls will be put up to segregate to prevent cross contamination and other measures. The chemical company will have it's own loading dock, warehouse and staff separate to our current food manufacturing activities. The only shared space will be bathrooms, breakroom and office space. The shared spaces also have me worried about possible cross contamination but I will have to conduct a risk assessment to address concerns. I am not crazy about bringing on this new business as it has nothing to do with food products and staff in the chemical company will be repacking chemicals into small bottles and shipping product next to our food manufacturing. My question is, if we have this other business not food related in our building will it affect our FSSC 22000 certification. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
