Hello - SQF Ed 9.0 section 11.2.5.2  does say that only trained staff can handle chemicals, and auditors almost always ask to see training records on Sanitation training.

So, I've always taken that to mean that employees handling chemicals or ingredients that require any PPE such as safety glasses should be trained in it.  And it's required to have SDS sheets on chemicals.  So, I would say yes, and it's good practice as well.

Element 11.3.3.6- Protective clothing shall be manufactured from material that will not pose a food safety threat and is easily cleaned.

All protective clothing shall be cleaned after use, or at a frequency to control contamination, and stored in a clean and serviceable condition to prevent microbiological or cross-contact allergen contamination.

Make sure your safety glasses are listed on a defined cleaning frequency based on a RA. Example in the rice industry - a dry ambient environment with no chemicals used, we cleaned them once a month. It was part of a monthly tailgate meeting and everybody wiped down their PPE (bump caps, glasses) and OP's Manager signed off.

If you don't like change, you're going to like becoming irrelevant less.
