Hi Everyone,

Has everyone had annual audits since the pandemic?

  • 2020 we did not have an annual audit
  • 2021 we had a virtual audit

I'm curious if in 2022 we will have an audit?

I have had onsite audits each year throughout the pandemic. We had our unannounced ed 9.0 onsite back in August.  Reach out to your CB and ask, would be your best bet.

If you don't like change, you're going to like becoming irrelevant less.

We have had onsite audits at both of our locations throughout the pandemic. Our 2020 in the one facility was postponed about 3 months, but other then that, business as usual.

Sorry everyone, I meant to add CFIA audit! I put it in the tags but not in the question.

CFIA was virtual for us in spring-fall of 2020, but have been onsite since , and were just on site last week for our quarterly

and here again today for sampling

At the moment, AFAIK, they have not been told to return to virtual inspection, to which I breathe a sigh of relief, virtual audits are horrid

This is super helpful!! Thanks for responding. Who knows what will happen next, the rules seem to be changing daily with these new variants!

We haven't had CFIA audit since 2019, though they came for sampling beginning of 2020, just when that nightmare started. That's that.

Interesting! It sounds like it might be dependant on the commodity, or even at random.

Thank you!

I recall, one of CFIA inspectors told me that they had a rating for food industries: the best ones were to be inspected annually, or even bi-annually, and not good-performing companies might be inspected 3+ times a year. But, that conversation was way before 2020.

olenzah---that is the risk based inspection model

What they didn't tell you is that frequency of inspection also depends on:

Historical inspection ratings

# of units produced / year

your GFSI audit score(s)

product type (by level of risk)

Priority is being given to those business' who have not yet been inspected

agree 100%, our employees are currently dropping like proverbial flies, none are heavily symptomatic, but just the same, busiest time of the year and we are very close to skeleton crew already

II wouldn't hold my breath about onsite inspection in the new year with the way the #'s are headed!

The CFIA is moving ahead with SIP (Standard Inspection Procedure) implementation in meat processing facilities in 2022. From what has been explained, the previous Section 4 audits that were covered under the CVS program will be rolled into SIP and conducted by your local CFIA Inspectorate during SIP tasks. Meat Processing is expected to see the roll out by April and Slaughter Facilities by July.

This is also to coincide with the DSDP (digital service and delivery platform) roll out for the meat sector as well. This will allow meat processors to view their risk profile on their My CFIA account.
