Hi Simon and everyone else here,

Hello! I'm Binu from Chicago, IL, USA. I have relocated here from India (Goa.)

In Goa I used to work for Nestle's and was actively involved in Quality Assurance , almost all the aspects of quality of the product as well as the work environment. I enjoyed every moment of my job experience there.
Due to some reasons I took a break from my career and now after a good long 7 years, I'm back. I do realise now that I have lot of catching up to do and during my Google search I ended up finding this forum which I'm sure is going to be invaluable to me.
I look forward to learning more each day from all the members here and contributing any little that I may have.
Thank you so much for having accepted me into this forum.

Great to hear from you Binu. I don't think you'll find too much has changed in seven years; it's still all about risk managment and good old fashioned common sense. Please do feel free to join in with the discussions.

It's hard to break down all the places in the world, so please bear with me on the poll since there can only be 15 choices. The breakdowns on this poll are from a geographical map.

If you are so inclined, please tell us where you are located (or where you are from).

Scooch they were called; never has a camper song graced the Eurovision stage. And that's saying something. In the current format the UK will never win again. We don't have enough friends. :crybaby:

Hello!

I am a Food Technologist student in Greece (I hope I will finish in about a year)!
I found this forum randomly while googling around for HACCP things for an essay-homework I have to make.
Your forum is very nice and helpful! Amazing job guys!
I have to say that I feel a bit lost in all these tons of useful input... :sofa1: :helpplease: :x_tongue:  ...but I guess I will get used to it!

I won't be able to post a lot since I am a n00b in the Food Technology world and so far my eye caught only very "specialised" discussions while looking around the forum (where I don't have much to say since I am still only a student with no experience in the area). I also have my exams this period so I am quite busy with my studies! But I really will try to look around as much as I can and learn stuff from all of you!

Take care!
SaRaRa (no thats not my real name... its a capoeira nickname that haunts me :P)

You might be new and be a bit lost, but you certainly know how to use emoticons. ;) Don't worry about being a noob; I've been here from the start and I'm still a complete numpty.

Hehehe! Yes I have some experience in forums and yes I luv emoticons  :P
Thanx for the welcoming!

Well my nickname is nothing important really. I am not sure what it actually means... I heard many explanations but I am not sure for any of it... Some of which are: A musical instrument, the white guy who plays Capoeira like / has the soul of an African guy, an African guy who has huge curly hair (something like that), a disease, a big snake that lives in the Amazon rainforest... Hmm that must be all... :P

Its a tradition in Capoeira for the master to give his students nicknames in Portuguese according to the way they play, or look like, or anything really... Usually masters use names of animals but thats not always the case. For those that don't know, Capoeira is an Afro-Brasilian martial art, that looks kinda like a dance, developed in Brasil by the African (and not only) slaves. You can see what it looks like here. Sorry for the offtopic.

Hi Chac,

You are not the only member from Germany; we have several, although most have not posted for a while. I'm not sure about Austrians and Swiss. Gibt es irgendwelche Deutschen heraus dort?

You could always bring some friends along Chac.

Hi Simon,
I will ask some of my study friends if they want to join in but the problem is that most of them hardly understands English or don´t want to deal more with it than necessary.

By the way:
How can I quote other posts. Not the whole text but only some passages?? :dunno:

There is a "quote" button below the post text. Click that and delete the text you don't want between the quote tags.

Attached File  quote_tags.gif   1.63KB   5 downloads

Alternatively if you want to quote text from more than one post use the "MultiQ+" button and again delete any unwanted text.

Or if you want some text to show in line in your post just add it between quote tags.

I hope this makes sense. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Dear Chac,

As Simon notes, there are occasional German speaking contributors to this forum.

On the subject of German language –

In an attempt to understand German culture I once started a conversation on this subject with a Luxembourgian poster (Greetings Max !) only to be rapidly informed that Luxenbourg was already very happy with its own language etc ( see thread http://www.ifsqn.com...topic=4657&st=0 ).

In case you are feeling lonely for German, I found this, IMO, quite amusing German (probably) website favourably analysing yr humour in comparison to other Nations with some clever examples even if mainly of the “silly” variety (believe Monty Python was very popular in yr area?) –

http://www.german-jokes.com/why.html

I tried the “special section for Americans Viewers” ( not bad ) and the Audio jokes (also not bad however every joke had at least one word which was difficult to understand due to the heavy German accent, possibly deliberate of course).

One gets the overall impression that German humour is not very sophisticated, intentionally or otherwise though I daresay you don’t agree ? About the only knowledge I have of German is that if the verb is not visible at the end of the sentence, time to give translation up. Plus I was watching a TV detective program yesterday where someone asked – “What is the German for post-mortem ?”, you can guess the answer ;) .

Rgds / Charles.C

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

I told some of my friends about this forum and I hope they will join in.

You are right Monty Python is popular in Germany. I like it very much ( " Allways look on the brigt side of life" )

“What is the German for post-mortem ?”, you can guess the answer ;) .

By the way: Does foreigners have difficulties with understandíng the German way of anouncing the time? I mean there is even a difference between Westgermany and the part of the former GRD (that´s where I live). The westpeople do not understand our way of anouncing the time ( that stupid folk ;) )
