During recent BRC audit, new (to us) auditor said that we must be able to show that trainer is competent to train, not just competent in area of training. This goes to the heart of Train-the-Trainer (T3). I am aware of several web-based T3 courses, but wondering if anyone has exxperience with them. How do you 'prove' verbal training competence over the web?

BRC requires you to confirm the effectiveness of training and competency of the trainer so as a trainer you don't necessarily have to have a training qualification.

I personally believe actual training experience is invaluable so my advice would be to pick a course that has an actual training element of conducting practical sessions.

I haven't done a train the trainer course but did a CELTA course a few years ago. The disciplines I learned during the course have helped me to improve my training considerably. It was good fun as well.

Regards,

Tony

Dear KTD,

As Tony already indicates

BRC requires you to confirm the effectiveness of training and competency of the trainer so as a trainer you don't necessarily have to have a training qualification.

, the text of this BRC-requirement is [...reviewing and auditing the implementation and effectiveness of training and competency of the trainer..]. i would go for a training evaluation including evaluation of the trainer's capability. Or maybe a documented internal approval of all trainers, mentors, coaches and on-the-job-trainers.

Kind Regards,

Madam A. D-tor

We use a really simple "happy sheet" to rate the trainer each time we train - just a few questions e.g. Did you fully understand the training?, Did you find the training useful?, Was the trainer clear and easy to understand?, Was there adequate time for the training? (and there is one more that I can't think of at the moment!!) - we ask the trainee to rate the trainer from 1-5 with 5 being the best ( ) and 1 being worst ( ). We log all our training in an MS Access database so I can run a query on a trainer name & see the ratings they have got (but the same can be done in Excel or Open Office or whatever). It hasn't been questioned by any auditors (BRC or other) so far. We actually now have some "trained" trainers but not everyone is so it works for us.

No point in over-complicating things!
