Hi,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

We are revising our Food Safety and Quality Policy statement to ensure it covers all the 2.1.1 requirements.

Is it necessary that we specifically mention that we are committed to maintaining and continuously improving the "SQF System" or mentioning that we are committed

to maintaining and continuously improving our "Food Safety and Quality Management system" would suffice?

I ask this as we are a multi-site organization and we would like to have a common Food Safety and Quality Policy statement but are not going for SQF certification for all our sites this year.  :helpplease:

Regards,

Pavika

In addition to mentioning that your company is committed to maintaining and continuously improving your Food Safety and Quality Management systems I would include a short statement re. how thse committments are to be met (Management commitment). Also I believe that it would be advisable to include your committment to meeting the requirements of regulatory compliance, as well as having the policy document that is displayed to be signed by the most senior manager of the company.

Below is a section of our policy statement. The wording below has been approved at various audits.

... We will continuously provide our employees with the resources, including information and training, which they require to understand and be competent in applying these practices. We will continuously review these practices to identify gaps and communicate to our employees any opportunity to improve our performance to ever higher levels of product safety and quality.

Where improvements to our facility can contribute to ensuring the safety and quality of our products, we will invest in making these improvements.

Thank you esquef and AdeSea!

The policy statement you mentioned does reflect a strong management commitment.

It seems that it shouldn't matter if we mention "SQF SYSTEM" in the statement or just the FSMS

Hi Pavika,

Most people would refer to food safety management system rather than SQF system and there is no requirement in the SQF Code to refer to 'the SQF system' in your policy:

'2.1.1 Management Policy (M)
2.1.1.1 Senior management shall prepare and implement a policy statement that outlines as a minimum the:
i. Organization’s commitment to supply safe food;
ii. Methods used to comply with its customer and regulatory requirements and continually improve its food safety management system; and
iii. Organizations commitment to establish and review food safety objectives.
2.1.1.2 The policy statement shall be:
i. Signed by senior management;
ii. Made available in language understood by all staff; and
iii. Displayed in a prominent position and effectively communicated to all staff.

Regards,

Tony

Dear Pavika,

Of course, there is presumably also no objection to including a mention to the SQF system  where an SQF audit definitely  is to be made. Might get you a bonus point. :smile:  (I have always done it for BRC although admittedly never saw any bonus).

Rgds / Charles.C

PS - I suppose it also depends on yr willingness to trust other units to remove the "SQF" where definitely not applicable.?

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

I know this is an older thread but could somebody share an example of a policy that has passed an SQF version 8 audit. We have had our desk audit and there is a question for me on what I need here as the auditor has said that I need specific food safety objectives and goals on my policy.
