Hello all! Can anyone recommend a pH probe that does well in an acid application, specifically Salad Dressings? I've been working with several models all show different readings and/or have a short shelf life of <3 months. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've used 8165BNWP for that same application - not sure of the life we got out of them and they're pricey, but they read quickly.  There's a similar probe for about half the price if I recall correctly but reads much slower.  We paired it with a Hach portable pH meter for use on the production floor, we used Orion bench meters in the laboratory.

Based on my experience, Orion now acquired by Thermo Scientific, is a good brand.

In my previous employment, our pH probes (of different brands) lasts for years. So I wonder why yours have a very short shelf life. Do you calibrate it daily? Do you check for the level of the electrode solution inside the probe? or Maybe it is the manner of how it is used? Please do check also for other factors other than the brand.

I hope that this helps.

Cheers,

Ray

Thanks for the recommendation RMAV, I'll look into that model.

Ray_in_Saudi, our probes are calibrated multiple times a day, electrode solution levels are also always checked and maintained, the manner of how it is used is the typical way a pH probe is used, probes are also stored in storage solution when not in use for long periods of time, we have several samples a day that are tested. Which probe did you use that lasted you years, so I can check it out, based on my the research I've conducted, pH probe manufacturers do not give a shelf life longer than 12 months.

Thanks!

@QATX12: I forgot what model was it as it was 10 years ago. But I know that it's brand was Orion. Our pH meters then tested acidic solutions like carbonated beverage, beverage syrup etc. The other was American made. I forgot the brand.

Found this to be pretty good and easy to use. Has 2 year warranty but lasts years!

Hi QAXT12

Been a few years, so don't remember brands. Other than calibrating the probe, are you periodically cleaning it? Back in the day, probes had a frit that could be clogged by any particulates in the test liquid, thus not allowing the interior soln to flow out properly. I used I believe an Orion probe that had a button on the top that when pushed slightly separated the interior and exterior parts of the probe, allowing fresh soln to flow freely.

Are you using a glass or membrane tip? I am YEARS out on the technology, so I may be clueless on this...
