Hi all,

I am working in the seaweed company and I was wondering if anyone know about moisture content (MC) limit for dried seaweed?  I am regularly checking Aw (which is always below 0.6) and MC (which significantly varies). I couldn't find any information specifically for seaweed, so I thought maybe someone else accidentally (or not) came across this information?

Thank you,

Inga

Hi Inga,

I haven't the faintest idea about seaweed - perhaps local standards may have something in place if this is something manufactured regularly in the UK, or perhaps your customers have their own specifications. I did find this however:

Seaweed of acceptable quality should not contain more than: • Water H2O (35%) moisture content • Salt KCl (28%) - potassium chloride • Salt Free Dried Matter (34%) • Usually purple, green and white with some salt crystals are signs of good quality

Hope this helps

Thank you, Tan for your reply.

I think I've read all the papers about seaweed quality but none of them had specific requirements, so I think we just need to set our own ones. And it's not a regularly manufactured product in the UK, so there are no local standards.

Thank you anyway,

Inga
