hi, want to know if one can analyze cosmetic product in  an in- house laboratory that produces milk. is it against the food safety law. the cosmetic product is also produced by the same company  but in another location. Also, need the latest AOAC -Official method of analysis for microbiological analysis of milk powder. Thanks. Viviene

It is possible to analyze a cosmetic product in the in-house laboratory provided you take appropriate control measures to prevent cross contaminating other food samples as well as food products. You can for example have the lab not opening directly into the processing area and the entrance to the facility. To avoid contaminating your food samples, think of having different shelves which are clearly labelled and locked. chemical samples can be kept in the lower shelves as opposed to food samples.

Hello,

in principles I think it is possible. It depends on the type of organism analysed (pathogens? with or without enrichment etc.), where the lab is located in the plant ansd how it is separated (sample and personal flow), the measures taken to reduce the risk and last but not least the permissions from authorities necessary. The spectrum of organism might be different and depends on the type of cosmetic.
