Hello all. we were recently tagged for a non-conformance in our last audit in that our seasonal employees were not properly trained in SQF.  If and how are you training your seasonal employee to "understand" what SQF is and what the auditor is looking for? Please Help.

Your employees do not need to be able to explain what the SQF system is, but they need to understand what their role in food safety is, what their responsibilities are, and why they're important.

If an employee can't define the acronym but meets the requirements of your food safety plan, I would challenge that finding.

HI,

Training is one of the key prerequisite program in any application. In our fruit processing plant, we run three shifts per day with each shift having 250 seasonal employee.

We ensure that all employees are trained on all basic matters regarding food safety, quality and legality and records for training are kept.

In our case,we train at least one line at a time during production. In addition,we conduct weekly flagging meeting with the line leaders where matter regarding production and quality are discussed and escalated down to the workers at the shop floor.

We also have written guidelines on the plant entrances where all employees can read for themselves.

With this kind of practice, you can demonstrate to the auditor that you are able to train your seasonal employees.

regards,

D.KAMAU.
