Good afternoon every one. I have search some topics about" ban the staples " in the production are. Our policy is still accept both staples and non staples packaging. Now I am going to find a solution for our packaging materials. We currently use staples to close PET snack boxes but some customer required clear tape to close. The point is for some oily and full of sauces salads the estape can not hold the lid for long. That is why I am thinking if there is a heat sealer could solve this problem. Thanks for reading and appreciate any suggestion.

I can say I've never seen a staple holding together food packaging!  A heat sealer is absolutely what you need.  You can get ones which are in line or cheaper (and slower) rotary sealers if you're only a small business.  You can quite often hire rotary sealers but if your product is ready to eat just be really careful it's well cleaned before it's used as you know the history of where it's been (i.e. don't use a bit of kit which was packing raw chicken last week!)

Proseal are one of the biggest companies who make this kind of machine.  There may be others more local to you though.

I have to agree with GMO. A heat sealer is the best way to go.

We have a total ban on staples in paperwork going to the factory as well as incoming packaging and raw material.

Nancy Hi, am a little confused on staple packaging, first time i've heard of it. As said above by GMO, the are some great heat sealing machines out there and Proseal make some really good versions to suit your needs. I have worked a couple of times with them and have never been let down. (No i dont work for them).

Also having such equipment could help with shelf life of your products, quality, efficiency.............. and if the industry in New Zealand do use staples as standard then you will be raising the standard and moving the industry forward.

There are also some innovative packing ideas out there which will self lock and seal which may be another way of solving the problem.

P.S. Get rid of them staples, it;'s generally frowned upon under any type of industry scheme  :hypocrite:

Jimmy

I take it you don't metal detect your product either?

Thank you for your suggestion.

We don't do metal detection because there is no point with staples on it :)

The production is base on labor power, so I guess it could slow down the staffs if we use something like the T2 Proseal bench top?

Well exactly... that was my point.  It's a risk to your business to not metal detect.
