Hi msmcipm,

From your question I presume you're not hiring the services of a specialist pest contractor and will be doing it in-house. I would start by compiling a presentation of which pests in particular pose a risk to your site, the risks they pose and the measures that must be taken to prevent them becoming prevalent. I assume your in-house pest control team have had/will have their roles within the function communicated to them? The staff once presented with the information should sign off on some form of training matrix that they have seen and understood this presentation.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Hi,

We have a 3rd party pest contractor and we cover this in annual employee orientation. - a small blurb that pest control is everyone's responsibility, how to and who to report pest sightings; with written retention quiz; posters and SOP's on bulletin boards and of course the Pest Service wall mounts for reporting sightings. We also have supervisors daily checklist and sanitation supervisors checks of traps, lights and potential internal/external harborage areas which come to me for each shift.

This has been sufficient for our BRC audits and CFIA. (and they do quiz our staff!)

This came up in an internal audit for us - so I created a couple of slides in my annual GMP review to point out GMP elements that relate specifically to pest management:

- keeping doors closed - not propping or holding them open (also a food security issue)

- maintaining 18" perimeters

- keeping product covered

- inspecting materials for damage

Last month in New York, a local pest control NYC company had also organized a pest control awareness program. Where they had maintained and evaluated the pest control program and mentioned some nature of various pests and their control methods to educate their staff. Some pest control Queens NY had also pointed out the prevention and avoidance of pest problems and meet economic, public health, and environmental goals.
