Hello!

I'm looking into listing the following color additives in our US labels (snack product):

Curcumin (E100), Riboflavin (E101), Beetroot Red (E162), Anthocyanins (E163), Brilliant Blue FCF (E133).

I have 2 questions regarding this:

-According to FDA Food Labeling Guide, ingredient listing for artificial colors depend on whether the artificial color is a certified color.  What certified means in this case? is it a certification for the batch used? Brilliant Blue is subject to certification but I'm not sure what this means?

-What ingredient listing is used for natural colors? are they just labelled by their names? (no lake number or Color Number)

thanks in advance for your help! :helpplease:  :helpplease:

Certified means that each lot of color that you'll use must have certificate of analysis (CoA) issued by FDA (your supplier must deliver this document to you with each lot). List of colors subject to certification is in 21 CFR part 74

Colors exempt form certification (natural colors are listed here: annato, turmeric, riboflavin, etc.) and their specifications are listed in 21 CFR part 73. I guess that they can be labeled with the names that appear in the list.

Best regards
