Mechanical workshop inside production area

Hello everyone, we want to construct a mini-workshop (that would contain some spare parts and tools for mechanical work), and some mechanical work except for cutting, grinding and other related work to be done there, inside production area of our facility, which is a highly sensitive area. What does FSSC22000 recommends about this? Regards,

This would be in the first few sections of the ISO/TS 22002-1:2009 Prerequisite programmes on food safety. If you have the tech. standard look at sections 4 and 5.

It doesn't say you can't do it but you need to give consideration to the layout of the mini-workshop and its interaction with parts of the food processing areas and how potential sources of contamination could occur. Essentially you need a documented risk assessment. I would do an (FMEA) for all the activities in the shop and the failures for each step that could cause contamination and how you would control those. Routinely review this to ensure nothing has changed

You can find some analogous queries to this in previous threads for other Standards. Mostly pessimistic towards subsequent findings.

From an auditorial viewpoint I predict that such an installation is, operationally, likely to create a bucket load of headaches from various directions, eg contamination, worker flow patterns etc etc .

I would ask / wonder why it is needed?  What is the purpose?  I say this because in my previous facility we would rebuild a lot of valves during equipment downtime for PM's.  We had a mobile work table built for this purpose and just wheeled it into the area where we were working on the valves.  Could this be an option?  Would it suffice for what is needed?

As Charles mentioned, there's no specific limitation, but it opens a lot of questions and potential headaches.

Hi Ryan,

As we are working in a highly controlled and sensitive area, we have certain entry and exit protocols for personnel and for all the tools etc that are supposed to enter the area, so the mini workshop is needed to reduce time needed to do the work and for the personnel to go out and then again come in to the area. The mini worshop is also supposed to keep some stock of spare parts that may be needed.
