Hello IFSQN team, has anyone happened to know what the requirements for claiming Low Glycemic Index on the package are. Do all the companies who claimed low GI on the package have done the clinical research for the GI result? I’ve been trying to find out and there are not many clinical lab in CA or nearby. What I found is the attached product's GI value below. Is there any way we can know the GI value for the particular product by not sending it to the lab? Thank you in advance!

Hi Gracezy,

I assume you are asking for US application.
I am located in the EU and can give answer for this area. The Health Claims directive does not allow GI claims anymore - not sufficient scientific data.
For Canada I have found similar https://academic.oup...8/2/269/4577119

"Health Canada’s current opinion is that the inclusion of the GI value on the label of eligible food products would be misleading and would not add value to nutrition labeling and dietary guidelines in assisting consumers to make healthier food choices."

"The Health Claims directive does not allow GI claims anymore" --- Does this apply only in EU?

I've seen low GI claim products in the US market.

Thank you Moskito!
