Hi all

has anybody any experience of recycled polythene behind a functional barrier? we currently sell virgin into the food industry but with three layer extruders we are capable of incorporating a layer of say 50% in house regran or a brought in Post Consumer Waste. We've trialed this and had overall migration testing done with good results, what else would anybody suggest to get this product accepted by the food industry.

Would we need a challenge test and if so what would this be.

The PCW was brought in from a major EU supplier with full technical specification, would we require anything else such as an analysis of the PCW or EFSA registration number?

Maybe somebody could suggest a UK based consultant who could talk us through the process of taking this material to market

thanks

Mark

Multi-layer extrusions are commonly used in food contact packaging.

My experience is that if the PCR layer is encapsulated between two layers of adhesive and then a sealant layer, it shouldn't be an issue.

Drinking liquid from a  cup made of PCR materials is no different.

If you are going to be selling this in the US then go here for some guidance.
