Hello,

We recently had a topic brought up regarding wearing capri pants in the "clean rooms".  We call our production rooms "Clean rooms" but I don't necessarily think they are actually class 100 clean rooms or have to be. We manufacture dietary supplements and wear the standard lab coates, hair nets, face masks, shoe booties and gloves.  Is there anything saying that we can't allow capris? We are SQF.

Hi Sarah,

From Google -

Capris have a bad reputation for a reason. They tend to shorten your legs (especially if you are short, to begin with), and they highlight wide or muscular calves.

At a previous facility years ago shorts were allowed for my first 6 months, then when we were bought by a larger company they were immediately discontinued.  The reasoning was Leg Hair.  Of course there was lots of back and forth about arm hair and eye brows etc. I've had auditors also ask about long sleeve shirts because arm hair could get into product, and then it lead to a discussion about the risk and likelihood of arm hair falling off and landing into product.   I think if you want to continue to allow employees to wear capris, then a risk analysis would be your best bet.
