Hi All!
Does every food importer need to be registered with the FDA before importing food material from outside the USA?
If it is mandatory, what happens if somebody imports without registration?
Thanks!

Yes, food importers must be registered with FDA to import product into the USA. You also need to notify FDA of the incoming shipment prior to arrival. If you are not registered or provide notification, your shipment will most likely be detained.

Thank you very much for the answer!
Accordingly, every importer must have a valid registration number from FDA, isn't it?
But some of the persons I know, claims that they are not registered with FDA & they are importing without troubles.
I am wondering about it.
Thanks!

Yes, and new rules companies must have a DUNs number as well that matches the address of the manufacturing plant.

Thanks all!
I got to know that it is able to be imported without FDA numbers, if the clearing party has registered in FDA.
