Hi!

Good Morning, Everyone.

I am from a crab meat manufacturing company who has been recently certified to BRC 8. Early this year, the management decided to add a new product (well not really new since only the packaging type has been changed. same recipe). What should I do to still be able comply with BRC requirements brought about by the change of packaging. Any ideas? thank you.

Hi Joanne,

I think you're talking about scope of your certificate that not including the new packaging material,

BRCGS is asking always to add the packaging material into the scope of the certificate and include it also into the HACCP plan and supplier approval,

there is only one way as far as i know , which is contacting your certification body and telling them the case and they could get for you a solution after discussion with BRCGS if needed.

Into the same time: is the new packaging material not mentioned or used before by your factory ? if material used before but in different size or different shape , then you shall only check your scope of HACCP and if mentioned then the size will only added , if not added or used before then contacting your certification body will be the best solution.

Greetings Joanne,

My opinion is do nothing until the next audit. Just gather up all the necessary information about the new packaging (certificates, migration analysis, letter of conformance, food-grade certificates etc) and the auditor will see it in the next visit.

You can put the data and the decision about the new packaging as a topic in the FS Team meeting records. If there were any modifications that needed to be done for the new packaging in the packing line or new equipment or something that altered the process in some way, then you can also back it up with a risk assessment of the change.

Regards!
