Hello...can anyone guide me to where I can find master case label requirements?

If labelled retail units are added to a master case, is a master case label still required?

I am looking for information/requirements specific to case labels, any help would be appreciated.

Canadian sales only? or do you ship to USA?

CFIA calls them "shipping containers"  https://inspection.c...6/1625073023844

General  (much more info at the above site)

The following mandatory labelling requirements apply to prepackaged other than consumer prepackaged foods, including shipping containers. For further information on each requirement, visit the Industry Labelling Tool.

  • common name
  • list of ingredients and allergen labelling
  • name and principal place of business
  • net quantity
  • nutrition labelling
  • other mandatory information as required for the product (for example, labelling of irradiated foods, previously frozen declaration)

That would depend on whether shipping container is to be placed on the retail shelves or its content will be sold as single items. For instance, a box with ice cream popsicles shall have all mandatory information as it might be bought altogether with its content, while a box with kefir bottles (that's what we make) will be opened, and bottles will be removed for further sell - hence, in this case a box label does not fall under the abovementioned CFIA requirements.

We ship to both Canadian and the US.

The shipping container will not be placed on retail selves. It would be the same situation as you described with the kefir bottles.

The individual units will be removed for further sale.

Is there anywhere in the CFIA regs that states specifically that the shipping label is not required in this case?

I'm pretty sure as we're making those kefirs for Loblaw - and these guys are aware of legislative requirements. So far, for 10 years we're making kefirs for them, the box labels haven't been objected.

All you have to do is read the regulations that I attached previously.  They make it VERY clear what is and is not required depending on whether it's a retail item OR simply the master case

You need to be able to read and understand the regulations.  What I posted IS REQUIRED for shipping containers. Period. I posted directly from CFIA-what more are you after?

The aforementioned regulations ARE for shipping containers---please ensure to read the regulatory requirement fully

FYI these rules changed with SFCR and it's your responsibility, not Loblaw to ensure you're finished goods meet regulatory requirements prior to shipping
