Simply implementing a new standard like ISO22k does not make products safer, only people can make safer products.

I am in total agreement with Okido and the reason for a recent 2nd Party Audit by a BRC Auditor from UK on one of our companies. ^The Auditor made an implicative statement which suggested that the core reason for his coming out to audit these facilities is to verify that these Companies indeed practice their FSMS and not just for the sake of obtaining Food Safety Certifications ....................and worse, continue making "shoddy food stuff" that may have potential food risk exposures.

If your FSMS is able to withstand a competent 2nd party audit, you are basically there

Dear CharlesChew,

Maybe I am misunderstanding the terminologies but is it not possible that the secondary audit is solely checking the intrinsic competency of the first auditor ?

And 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', plant maintenance engineers all over the world will certainly cheer that one.

Regarding changes in food safety systems, new jargon is certainly a deterrent, particularly when it seems to have successfully confused would-be users ( I suspect this is still true regarding the 2Vs for many people also). I cheerfully admit to not being a theory genius and when looking at these standards, frequently find myself praying for some 'realistic, understandable' examples (preferably with real numbers attached). However despite people's reluctance to change I get the feeling that, as in Farm to Fork, the world has changed for now ++ with respect to demands on the seller who find themselves requiring ever increasing diligence data, regardless of whether this be reasonable or not. This is inevitably transmitted down the line and perhaps it should be, after all this is why they invented Pre-requisites, is it not ?.

Dear Charles C.
Terribly so as it sometimes can be, Simon reminded me the other day of the world called the "PerfectWorld". As in the real world, technical reviews often differ between 2 human auditors and that, sometimes can be very significant and implicatively scary. Such interventions can be very demanding on the seller although I am very much for the policy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Charles

Hello Charlie, you may want to try Food Safety Magazine they always have regularly updated articles on their website. We have a few, but would like many more Food Safety Articles.
